V- Before the book ended it would talk about how her and a couple of other girls were in the exact same classroom. But none of them would really talk any english they were made to read in front of the classroom. After that it talked about how they would stay after school and at a point she stayed and decided to go play in one of the lavatories to mess around. And one of the girls that did not speak at all was following her. Maxine would express that she did not like her at all. She did not like her pretty face and how she would fix her hair. N- Maxine hated how clean the girl was. Maxine liked tough girls that didn’t cry and had yellow teeth. Girls that looked strong. V-Once Maxine got tired of being followed by her, she started to abuse her in a way. Maxine would pull her hair, pinch her, call her stupid to the point in which the little girl cried. N- Maxine abused her to get her to talk, because the girl never talked. N- Maxine had her the girl shout before, so she wanted the girl to talk to her. But the girl didn’t talk. V- Maxine got tired of doing that to her and told her to at least stand up for herself and say stop or you are hurting me but she did not say one word. She decided to stop abusing her whenever her older sister walked in and told her that she was trying to help her after that they went home.
V- There came a part near the ending when Maxine’s mother tried to find her a husband. And they would show pictures of her to guys, they would even let them work with them but they would end up leaving. And a weird creepy guy comes along and starts following her that even her parents start to think he might be a good husband for Maxine. A few days later he leaves a box full of porn stuff in them at the shop and Maxine go furious because her parents kept trying to get her married when she did not want to marry someone yet. N- Her mother and Maxine started arguing. Her mother told her that the people that came were for her sister. That nobody would want to marry her.
K- In the last parts of the book, Maxine spoke of more of family members and some situations a few of them were in at points in time. Maxine also wrote about herself and of course ghost.Maxine wrote about a woman Brave Orchid, and her sister Moon Orchid who flew to America from Hong Kong. Brave Orchid was bringing Moon Orchid to America to find her husband that was supposed to have sent for her, which he apparently did not. Once they find him, he tells them that Moon Orchid could not be there, that he was already remarried and that no one could know she was there in America. N- Moon Orchid was crying the whole time and covering her face while Brave Orchid was talking to her husband. Her husband said that he had a new wife and a new life. That he didn’t want Moon Orchid at his house. He would keep sending her money like he has always done, but he never wanted to see her again. Then few year later, Moon Orchid turned crazy. She thought that their was mexican ghosts after her. She would disguise herself. Moon Orchid started hiding things in the house like photographs because she said that if the mexicans traced her, she didn’t want them to trace the whole family. Moon Orchid cried every time someone left the house because she thought that the mexican ghosts would get them. They ended up putting Moon Orchid in a state mental asylum.
K- My opinion on the text is that is descriptive, it is also informative on how different the customs are between America and Hong Kong and how much a person can change. I really liked this part in the section because I could get a better understanding as to differences from America to other places.
V-My opinion of this part of the story really intrigued me by the way she would write all those descriptions of how she was being mean to the little girl. The words she used helped me build an image in my mind. My favorite part was whenever the older sister walked in and she acted like nothing was going on.
N- My opinion is that this book has a lot of information about China’s beliefs. I thought that it was sad how Moon Orchids went to look for her husband and he didn’t go back with her. This book explain everything really good. My favorite part was when Maxine was freaking out because she thought that her mother was looking for someone to marry her. I thought it was mean how Maxine talked about the kid that always came to sit at their laundry.

The Alchemist 3rd Blog Post
(Michael):
So far in the book The Alchemist Santiago has been on his journey for his personal legend and he has learned to listen to his heart. This is a very important part in the book because it shows how Santiago has fully committed to finding his personal legend and that he is getting to know himself better in the process. At this point in the book Santiago has been learning a lot from the Alchemist and has been able to listen to his heart. My opinion on the book so far is that Santiago is a strong person and he is determined to reach his treasure. The part where he changed into the wind was an important part in the book to me because to me, it shows that anything is possible and that people can do whatever they set their minds too no matter how far fetched it may seem. At the end of the book when Santiago finds his treasure in the old church it was surprising to me because he had been in that church before and he was so close to his treasure without even knowing it.
What is your opinion of the text so far?
My opinion on the text so far is that the text is powerful and has a very deep meaning to it. The meaning is: to follow your dreams or your personal legend, and I think this is a very important topic to discuss because so many people give up on their dreams by forgetting how important it is to them and this book could help them get their priorities in order and do what they have always wanted to do.
(Carla):
How does the work connect to your life and/or events around you?
This book connects to my life and events around me in many ways. This book taught me that not everything in life is easy. You have to work for what you want in life. In this book Santiago was the main character and he had a dream to get to the Pyramids and find his treasure. Throughout the book he had some difficulty and he wanted to give up. He was convinced by other characters in the book never to give up and follow his personal legend. This book inspires me to keep up my hard work on my education on the problems I face and on basically everything. This book shows me or teaches me never to give up that am going to be put on difficulties but that I can make it through and reach the end no matter what happens. This book also has a part that I really liked a lot. The part where Santiago wants to become the wind and he talks to the desert, wind, sun, and they all tell Santiago that they can’t do that and then the sun tells him to talk to the one that made the world which is God. So then Santiago did a prayer but it wasn’t thanking god for anything nor begging him to make him the wind. Then Santiago actually got moved to another place in the dunes, and people thought he did turn into the wind. That part just tells me that God is with me everywhere at every time and he won't forget about me or anyone. So I can trust God.

Is the author successful in his/her writing?
I think the author is successful in his writing because he made the words to the book really simple but at the same very descriptive. This book was easy to understand there aren't hardly any hard words in the book. We recommend this book to a lot of people its an awesome book and it teaches good stuff. Plus Its very easy to comprehend and its not that long of a novel.

Like Water for Chocolate.
Bre: (Summary) During this part of the book is when Tita learns she is not pregnant. Mama Elena had a type of curse over her. When Tita finally stood up to her mother’s ghost the curse was lifted and she was no longer pregnant. Tita breaks off her engagement to John because she still loves Pedro dearly and can not get over him. When Pedro learns of Tita not being pregnant he gets really upset. Towards the end of the book Rosaura and Pedro's daughter wants to marry a man Alex. Rosaura says that since Esperanza is her youngest and only daughter she could never marry. Pedro and Tita have to fight with Rosaura but she stands her ground. But Rosaura eventually dies and Pedro and Tita allow Esperanza to marry Alex. The book comes to a close when Pedro and Tita have one last love affair. The climax was so good that Pedro saw a white light and died. So Tita decided to eat candles to get the same climax and to see the white light, then she dies. The book finally ends with Esperanza and Alex's daughter telling about how her Great Aunt Tita will live on through her cooking.
Blake (Opinion):
The ending of this book was really shocking. For Tita and Pedro to finally being together makes everything peaceful. Until one night their climax rises so far it causes Pedro to die. For Tita to eat candles was very weird because, that’s the last thing I would do to feel the sparks she had experienced with her loved one. To feel the warmth and love that Pedro made her feel. For Tita to die, trying to keep her matches lite with sparks, she also passes away which is also sad because, she was so happy and just tried to experience that feeling constantly made her die happy.

Life of Pi #2
Dylan: Pi and Mr. Kumar went through the zoo and Mr. Kumar told him the names of the animals that they saw. They boarded a ship with a lot of animals. The ship sank and they tried to get Richard Parker to get on the lifeboat. A man shot the hyena and the zebra that was on the boat to put them out of their misery.
Chris: While facing the tragedy of a shipwreck, Pi is thrown overboard into a dingy which wasn't for the purpose for saving his life. Other crew members tried using him to free the lifeboat of a troubling hyena. After two and a half days, he comes to consider that his entire family is dead from the sunken ship. Now he sees that he is stranded with a Royal Bengal Tiger, a hyena, and a dead zebra and orangutan.
Donnie: Pi is walking with Mr.Kumar through the zoo and talking to him. Mr. Kumar is going into great detail about the animals. Pi is still nonplussed about his religion son he becomes an atheist like Mr.Kumar
Adam: Pi, his family, and some zoo animals get on a boat to move to Canada. The ship sinks and some animals die from the tragedy. After Pi is stranded in the Pacific Ocean on dingy without his mom or dad he tries to survive this awful event.
Opinion(Chris): So far throughout the book, Pi’s struggle for survival and adaptation to his situation kept me on edge the entire time I was reading. The book adds suspense here and there, but leaves room for life lessons to be learned. His use of expanded vocabulary helps add to the intensifying events going on. I think the book is great so far and hoping to find a turn of events sometime soon.
Opinion(Dylan): My opinion on the book so far is good. At the beginning of the book I wasn't into it because when he would talk about all the different religions he would try to follow I would get confused. Now its grabbing my attention. When an action or gory part comes he goes into detail so you can imagine it very clearly. The book so far has been great and I'm ready to find out what is going to happen to him.

The Alchemist 2nd BlogPost
(MICHAEL) Santiago goes on and meets an Englishman. They talk about how they both were told by a king that they were to follow their personal legends. They both decide to go on to Egypt and find their treasure. Santiago, the Englishman and the camel driver were talking about the alchemist. On the way they stop at the oasis because they want to talk and meet the alchemist. They ask a lot of people of they knew where to find the alchemist. Almost everyone they asked said they didn't know anything about that person. One day while Santiago was looking for someone else to ask about the alchemist, he meet Fatima. Santiago felt something for her and the next day when he saw her again he told her what he felt for her and that he wanted to be with her. (KAT) Fatima told him that she was okay with it but that she wanted him to go find his treasure and that she will wait for him to come back. Santiago finally meets the alchemist and the alchemist tries to convince Santiago to follow his dream and don’t give up just for love. He tells the boy that women from the desert know that they have to wait for their loved ones. So the boy tells the alchemist that he will go. During their way to the Pyramids, were his treasure is at, the boy starts talking about why they need to listen to their hearts. The boy tells him that it was becoming hard for him to listen to his heart, so they get into that conversation. After that conversation Santiago can now understand his heart and asked his heart never to stop speaking to him. (CARLA) Later they were stopped by a horseman and he asked the alchemist and the boy what they were doing in the middle of the desert were a war was about to start. The alchemist said they didn't have to go far that they were close so the horseman let them go. They kept on going and were stopped again by the chief. The chief asked who they were and what they were doing there and the alchemist told the chief that he was helping the alchemist to find some place. The alchemist said that the boy which he said was the alchemist, could turn himself into wind and destroy the dunes where they were at. So the chief laughed and said he wanted to see that and the alchemist told him that the boy needed three days. So the third day the boy said he wasn't ready that he didn't know how to turn into wind. The boy started talking to the desert then the wind and sun and then he prayed. That's when the sandstorm started and it destroyed the dunes where they were at. The boy got to the Pyramids and cried, because he had made it but then two men beat him up and took the gold he had. They told Santiago that they had a dream that they were to go to the sycamore and dig right near there to find their treasure but that they were not stupid enough to do that. Santiago realized that his treasure was back at his home town. So Santiago found his treasure and was going back to Fatima.

Like Water for Chocolate.
Summary (Bre): The middle section of the book is mostly about Pedro being with Rosaura and how Tita copes with it. In this part of the book Tita goes to live with John the doctor. While living with him she develops strong feelings for him. When tita goes back to the family ranch to take care of mama Elena John proposes to her, Pedro then becomes very jealous. While John is away in North America to get his Aunt Mary, Pedro and Tita began to secretly mess around. One day Rosaura decides to come out of her room. She had lost over 60 pounds was very skinny. Rosaura told Tita she knew of her and pedros indiscretions, she said she no longer cared as long as they kept it hidden.
Opinion (Blake): The book is very good. I like that it’s very descriptive, you can visualize every scene. I don’t like that Pedro is getting so upset over Tita and John. I believe if he really loved Tita he would have never married Rosaura. I really hope Tita marries John, she would be very happy with him. I’m also glad that Mama Elena died. If I was tita I would have poisoned her food. But in all it was a great book.

The Women Warrior Blog Post 2
V-In the third story it talks about how her mother is in the college and how she would be a great student and studied all the time. N-She was very intelligent, students would take turns sitting next to her on exams. V&N-But one night while her and her roommate was having a sleepover. N-They told her about the sitting ghost that was the room at the end of the hall. N-They told her that no one would slept in that room because they were afraid. N&V-All the paranormal activity happened at midnight. V-When they heard a noise out in the hallway they became frightened, so her mother dared that she would spend the night in that one room. V-And if she were to scream that all of them would go running with all their lucky charms to get rid of the ghost. N-All she took with her was a novel and a knife. N-When she got in the room she started to read the novel. N-She then fell asleep. N-She was awakened by something big, hairy, and heavy on her chest. She then realized it was the sitting ghost. K- She speaks to the ghost in a strong manner stating that she wasn’t scared and that the ghost would have to do a lot more than the stories tell to scare her away. N-She starts struggling with the ghost and notices that she can’t take the ghost off of her. So she ignores the ghost. Then in sunrise, the ghost leaves and she falls asleep. In the morning, her roommates run in asking what happened that night. She then explains everything that happened and they make a plan to kill the ghost.V&N- They vanquished the ghost by using fire, oil and alcohol.
V- My opinion of this story is that its very interesting and it surprised me how brave she was to spend the night in the haunted room. My favorite part was when they made a plan to vanquished the ghost.
N- This section of the story surprised me because I think it’s cool how they killed the ghost. The way that Maxine’s mother described the ghost as being big, hairy, and heavy was gross because I imagined it. The ghost didn’t have eyes. I always thought that ghost were see through, but the way Maxine’s mother described it, it’s not.
K- This story in particular is most interesting and surprising to me other than the first. In this story all of the imagery used to describe things such as the monster, and her life then. The author I believe is fantastic in writing, especially placing herself in so many different aspects in life that to project her life as interesting, which she believes isn’t.

Blake and Bre
Like water for Chocolate is about the life of a young girl Tita. Titas father died when she is only two days old and her mothers milk dried up because of the shock. Nacha the cook took on the role of taking care of the child which is where Tita develops her strong passion for cooking. A young man Pedro comes and ask Tita for her hand in marriage. Mama Elena tells him Tita is not allowed to marry, since she is the youngest child she was to take care of her mother till she dies. Pedro decides to marry Titas sister Rosaura so he can stay close to her. Tita has to live out her days caring for her mother and having to watch her lover be with her sister. There's a huge change when tita goes to live with Doctor John. John begins to have feelings for tita and wants to ask her for her hand in marriage.
So far the book is very interesting and very descriptive. I don’t like that Nacha was killed off so quickly. She played such a big role in Titas life. I feel really bad for Tita, her mother is very mean to her. There's no way I would stay and take care of my mother if she treated me that poorly. I believe Tita should be allowed to marry and should not listen to her mother. The biggest disappointment is when Pedro agrees to marry Rosaura. If he really loved Tita he would have either demanded Mama Elena to let him marry her or he would have ran away with her. To be honest I really hope Tita decides to marry John. John seems like a very good man and he would treat her very well. I also believe by marrying John it will help her get over Pedro.

Life of Pi
So far Pi is being picked on because of his name and the author is describing the fathers zoo. So far I think that Pi is a peon I wouldn’t change my name at all I would beat their butt before I changed my name. I think that he author is doing good at portraying Pi as a peon. I believe there are a lot of people who let others walk all over him. Pi argues with Mr. Kumar about his religion. His father took Pi and his brother through the zoo and told them about the different animals and how they can kill you. The reason their father did this is because Pi’s brother did something and his father blamed them both. His father tells them the dangers of not locking the gates back when you feed the animals. His father told him about a leopard that jumped over the gate in 1933 and got loose. He has changed his religion and then he decided to have two religions.

The woman Warrior
In the beginning of the book The Woman Warrior, Maxine explains how her aunt became pregnant when her husband was away so many years, that it would be impossible for her to become pregnant by him. The day her aunt was giving birth, the villagers came and raided their home. The broke and destroyed things in their house. Her aunt had the baby in the pigsy due to the villagers raiding the house. The next morning they found Maxine’s aunt in the family’s well with her newborn baby.

Elie Wiesel
In this article, it talks about Elie Wiesel. As Elie talks about his experience with the holocaust, and concentration camps. Its breath taking! He describes all of the hurt faces and loved ones being separated out of their own homes to be taken away to camps or workplaces. Elie also mentioned the feelings and own opinions about how the SS workers did their job and how the whole concentration camps were organized. Elie still questions himself today, asking why? why did I out of all people, why did I survive? Was it a miracle? Elie didn’t believe in asking for miracles, because he seen his own father beaten down till he was dead. After the war, Wiesel studied in Paris and then soon became a journalist in the city. In 1978, he was appointed by President Jimmy Carter as Chairman of the President’s Commission on the Holocaust.

Summary of a Murder Trial
The article starts off with a quote by Benjamin B. Ferencz explaining that a world with tolerance and compassion is hard. Therefore if we do not develop law we could reenact a holocaust and wipe out everyone.
In the second paragraph of the article it states that in 1920 Benjamin was born and then 23 years later graduated from Harvard Law School. He later then joined an anti-aircraft artillery force to protect from France. After the invasion he was sent to find evidence of the crimes by Germany.
After searching for evidence he was sent to Berlin along with fifty other researchers. When they got to Berlin they saw millions of dead bodies and they called “The Worlds Biggest Murder Trial”.
During the trial twenty two defendants were guilty. Fourteen of them sentenced to death, two were sentenced to life terms, five were sentenced to 10-20 years, and four of the death sentences were carried out.

Antisemitism
Antisemitism. 2012. Photograph. N.p.
An example of antisemitism is when Nazi Germany and other collaborators killed Jewish people. The word antisemitism means hatred of Jews. The most common antisemitism throughout history were violent riots that were against Jews, government authorities encouraged this. There would be false rumors that Jews use the blood of Christian children to do rituals. There were political parties that were formed in Germany, France, and Austria. They made publications to spread the hatred of Jews. One of their publication was the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. In those publication, they blamed the Jews for many things. They said that Jews were unloyal citizens. When the Nazi's took over Germany, they started a economic boycott and burned all Jews books and writings. The Numberg Laws defined Jew by "blood" and they seperated "Aryans" and "non-Aryans." The Nazi's destroyed Synagogues and windows of stores owned by Jews. They did that in Germany and Austria.

Auschwitz

In Word War II there was many concentration camps. but out of all the camps there is one name everybody can remember Auschwitz.
Auschwitz was the largest of all the camps; which included Auschwitz I, Auschwitz II-Birkenau, and Auschwitz III also known as Buna or Monowitz.
Auschwitz I is where all the prisoners first arrived and the selection took place. Most people didn’t make it through selection. The selection split the prisoners into two groups one group was mostly men who were able to work who was sent to work camps. The other group was women, children, infants, the elderly, the sick, and the disabled these people was deemed as not useful and was sent to straight to the gas chambers.
Auschwitz II- Birkenau is the second camp. Most deaths took place in Birkenau. This camp had a large gas chamber and crematorium.
Auschwitz III also known as Buna or Monowitz was the third camp. This cam was considered to have the strongest prisoners. This camp was mostly known as a work camp. Instead of killing the prisoners off quickly they forced them to work.
In 1944 and 1945 when Allies began to come and liberate camps the SS Officers began bombing and blowing up gas chambers and crematoriums to hide the evidence of them killing the prisoners. As the Allies got closer the officers began killing the prisoners in mass numbers. When the officers realized that the Allies were closing in on them, they got all the prisoners together and sent them on a death march to a camp in Germany which was miles away. Most died in these marches.

Concentration Camps 1939-1942
Prisoners at forced labor in a brick factory.
In the years 1939-1942 they realized that they needed to expand their concetration camps. This was the second concentration camp that they built. In September 1938 the SS authorities started to enprision them for economic profit. After the begining of the war, the concetration camps became sites for mass murders of small targeted groups. The Dutch tried to protest aginst the killig of Jews but the SS authorities shipped them to Mauthausen to have them all killed. During this period, Germans constructed gas chambers to kill large numbers of people.

Children During The Holocaust
During the Holocaust many many children were killed. They killed over a million Jewish children, children with physical and mental disabilities that were living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the occupied Soviet Union. In the Ghettos children died of starvation, exposure, not having clothes nor shelter. The German authorities were indifferent to this mass death, they considered the younger ghetto children to be "unproductive" and "hence". They generally selected them, illness and disabled, for the first deportations to killing centers, or as the first victims led to mas graves to be shot. When groups of Jews arrived at killing centers the majority of children were sent directly to gas chambers. Children in villages who occupied Soviet Union were killed with their parents in concentration camps. After the surrender of Nazi Germany refugees searched throughout Europe for missing children. Many surviving Jewish children fled eastern Europe as part of the mass exodus to the western zones of occupied Germany.

Axis Powers In World War II
Starting in times of the 1930's, among the many Axis members, the three memorable ones were Germany, Italy, and Japan. For country expansion each partner had their sights set to a specific geographic area. Germany would conquer most of continental Europe while Italy fought over the Mediterranean Sea. Japan would try and seize land in the Pacific and East Asia. The Axis Powers lacked an organized and secure military or foreign policy. To set a solution for this vulnerability, the three signed the Tripartite Pact on September 27, 1940. Due to this pact, it fully established the Axis Powers.

COMBATING HOLOCAUST DENIAL: EVIDENCE OF THE HOLOCAUST PRESENTED AT NUREMBERG
Adolf Hitler and World War 1: 1913-1919
Hitler was known to be a very strong soldier and leader, he had been promoted to the rank of Corporal. "He had been carried along by an increasingly vicious political antisemitism promulgated by a radical right and seeping into the military during the last two years of the war". When the war was over Hitler felt devastated because he felt that he was being teared by the only community he had felt like he was home, and him returning as normal and not having a career to continue on just made him feel worse. On the year of 1919 Hitler issued his first comment that was called the so-called Jewish question in which he stated that Jews was not a religious community but a race. Ever since then he had tried to turn people against the Jews, so that they could eliminate them for once.

Battle of the Bulge
Allied powers tried to break into Germany's border, the Germans had a plan they called "Split the Rhine" they were trying to separate the US and British and force them into Northern France. The Allied forces was greatly outnumbered. The allied powers held their lines long enough for their reinforcements to get into position. Towards the end of December the German advance had not achieved what they wanted it too. With US troops and some British troops attacking the Germans from the North and South they cut out the bulge and were able defeat the Germans. The losses for the allies were about 81,000 while the germans suffered about 100,000 deaths.
